Good Friday

I think every Friday should be called Good Friday. I mean it’s Friday and that’s good because Saturday is here and then Sunday comes after. Ok, sorry I had to channel Rebecca Black for a second. Well, anyway Happy Good Friday. I have to share this because to me this is very good! I am so excited and I hope Grey’s Anatomy doesn’t do anything to fuck it up. Also, spoiler alert!

Did I Do That?

The other day Kobe was kicked off the court for too many technical fouls and while he was walking to the bench, TNT caught him throwing a tantrum. And in that tantrum, he was throwing out anti-gay remarks at the ref. It makes me laugh that TNT caught this entire thing and now Kobe owes $100,000 in fines. Jeesh, I wish we could do that to everyone who made anti-gay remarks. I’m not sure where that money would go, but it sure as hell would stop people from saying bad things. Obviously, this being caught on camera is the reason he was fined and I’m sure if the camera didn’t catch him he wouldn’t be punished at all. But then again, if the camera didn’t catch him, no one would even know he made these comments. Either way, I’m happy he’s being punished. $100,000 is probably pocket change to him though. Turns out too, that the NBA was about to release a public service announcement campaign with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) in order to present the league as being more "gay friendly." Guess they failed there. Good job Kobe. Stick it to the kids.

Gaga No More

Remember how I was super excited because Lady Gaga got Target to change it's ways and stop donating to anti-gay organizations and start donating to gay organizations? Well, something happened and now the deal is no more. They haven't released details as to why this fell through, but it makes me very sad. I know that Target wanted to partner with Gaga for her new single Born This Way and she would only do if they changed so does this mean she's no longer partnering with them? I hope that's the case. I honestly feel that some of these companies shouldn't take sides at all. If they want any business at all, they shouldn't take sides. Or they should just take the good side of things. Just saying. Either way, I hope whatever caused this deal to fall through is a really good excuse. I like me some Target.

Manic Monday

Well, we did it. Americans have taken a very large step in the right direction. Don't Ask, Don't Tell was repealed over the weekend. People can now serve openly. That's huge. I think I realized how huge it actually was when a poll was taken to see how this would affect troops and almost everyone said it wouldn't. Why should it? As long as you're all focusing on the same effort, who cares which sex you like. Who cares!!! So again I say we have taken a huge step. This one step can lead to even more large steps, such as legalizing gay marriage. And then, we've made it. I'm very happy about this and we can only hope for more in the future. I know we will get there.

I would also like to point out that Obama is the President while all this is happening. That's all.

The Best Message

I’m sure you’ve all seen the Messages of Hope out there from people like Obama or Hilary Clinton, but for some reason I think this one speaks to me the most. Maybe because it has real people speaking about their real experiences or because I freaking love Pixar. All of these people speak from the heart and their emotions are very real. I feel like when people like Hilary and Obama speak out, they’re doing it because they have an obligation, but Pixar doesn’t. None of these people do, but look how happy they are now. One lady talks about how she was happy someone interrupted her from committing suicide because she would have missed out on so much. That’s real to me. Getting to come home to the one you love is real to me. And speaking from personal experience, it really does get better. Enjoy.

Something New

I know I already wrote something for the day, but the subject matter doesn't even compare or matter to what happened yesterday with Prop 8. Who cares if Lindsay Lohan is out of jail or if Ali picked her fiance because bottom line is that history is about to be changed. Prop 8 was ruled unconstitutional yesterday and I am incredibly happy. Anyone out there who had to put their marriage on hold because of the law can begin their life with their partner soon. I know what happened yesterday doesn't suddenly make gay marriage legal, but it sure as hell is the biggest step we've ever made. And I couldn't be more thankful and appreciative for those who fought for this every single day. I stood in a protest or 2 and wore t-shirts and signed papers to make this legal, but there are so many out there who did so much more and now it's all paying off. For those of you who stood in a protest everyday and worked for 18 months to appeal this thing, thank you. You have no idea what you've done.

I was approached by a young gentleman in Pasadena last weekend who asked if I wanted to donate money to legalizing gay marriage. I, of course, stopped and talked to him. I found out that his job of getting people to donate money is a 9-5 Monday through Friday job and he's straight, but feels so passionate about legalizing gay marriage and I want to thank him. As I stood there talking to him, an older gentleman walked by and said "I'm trying to find a girlfriend. There's no way I can support gay marriage." It makes me sad to know that one straight man can give up everything for this cause, while another spits on it. So again, I thank everyone who has been able to stand up to the spiters and intolerant assholes and not let themselves be torn down. It means a lot. We are definitely on our way.

Fail and Free Blog Friday

I was debating posting this because it's kind of disgusting. In more ways than one. In my debate, I decided that even though this isn't safe for work, it might be worth a look just so people know that things like this really exist. It makes me kind of sick to be honest.

Africa the Terrible

Yesterday while I was reading through bbc.com I saw a story tile that caught my eye. I read it and became incredibly sad and then incredibly happy to live in the US even with all the horrible things that happen here. The story was about a gay couple in Malawi who were convicted of “gross indecency” and “unnatural acts” and because of this they could potentially face a jail sentence of 14 years. All because they are gay. What caught the attention of the authorities was the fact that the couple was holding an engagement ceremony at their house. So they weren’t even having sex or making out in public, they were just celebrating their love. And even if they were making out in public, I see couples doing that all the time. Last week at the Hollywood Bowl when the show let out, there was a straight couple right outside the exit sucking face. If it was a gay couple, all hell would have broken loose. Yes, gay marriage/acts are still frowned upon in the states, but no one would ever go to jail for it. The fact that this couple could potentially go to jail for committing “acts against nature” makes me sick. I have no words to describe how sad this makes me. It makes me wonder if tolerance for the homosexual community will ever happen.

You Married What Now?

This was recently brought to my attention and it makes me a little mad and I have to share. There is a site I found a while back accidentally called Oddee.com and it shows various cool and wacky things people do as well as some things people possess. There's a new post everyday and it’s quite entertaining. The one that was sent to me yesterday makes me mad and I’m not ok with it at all. The post was titled “World’s Strongest Marriages and Relationships” and what the article shows is people getting married to inanimate objects or dead people. This one lady got married to the Eiffel Tower.

So wait, let me get this straight. She can marry a famous building in France, but gay marriage isn’t allowed. Some lady married her dead ex boyfriend but gay marriage still isn’t allowed. How does that make any sense? One guy even married a freaking pillow!

Come on now! Doesn’t this make you mad? It just doesn't make sense!

Will You Marry Me?

Looks like the repeal for Prop 8 peeps couldn't get their shit together enough to get the repeal for Prop 8 going. It has been announced that the repeal of Prop 8 won't be on the November ballot because the petition failed to receive the amount of signatures needed. In order to qualify, there needed to be 694,000 signatures. Representatives didn’t say how many they got, but they obviously didn’t get anywhere near this number because they won’t say anything. I think it has something to do with the fact that the only way to sign this petition was via the internet. Yeah people are online all the time, but there should have been some face-to-face community outreach or texting or something. If they can get money for Haiti, they can get signatures for gay marriage! Looks like we need to try again for November 2012.

La Vida Loca

The day has finally come. Ricky Martin has come out of the closet. We all thought he was gay. I mean no heterosexual man can move his hips like that. Well, the news is out and true straight from his mouth: "I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am." One has to wonder if he did this now because he hasn’t been around for a while and wants some attention. Otherwise, why not come out when he was popular? I do have to acknowledge though that since he was popular many things have changed for the homosexual population so maybe that’s why he chose now. Either way, better late than never, right? Congratulations Ricky!

Glee Can Make Gay Marriage Legal

Sigh. To be a Glee cast member. We know we have a little bit of a chance with the open casting call to be announced soon for 3 new cast members, but I’m talking about the cast of Glee going to the White House on April 5 as personally invited by Obama for the Easter Egg Roll. That’s right, even the President watches Glee. He wants them to sing at his Easter party. I want to be part of this cast more than ever now. Not many people can say they sang at the White House because they were personally invited by the President. This show just keeps getting better. Maybe they can slip in a note about legalizing gay marriage? Just a thought.

Nonfail Blog Friday

With Ash Wednesday and Lent and all those fun things in our midst, I thought I would touch upon something religious that made me smile. Sounds like an oxymoron. This is old news, but I wanted to talk about it a little bit anyway just because it’s good news. Anne Hathaway and her family have changed their faith from Catholic to Episcopalian because her brother recently came out and is no longer accepted by the Catholic Church. How cool is that? How many families would do that? Not many.

I have my issues here and there with Anne Hathaway and the way she plays certain roles and her lack of talent in certain areas, but after reading this, I may begin to like her now. I kind of wish more people would follow the Hathaway family in this decision. Any religion against anyone should be left. I’m going to get a little preachy here, but Catholics tend to be a tad hypocritical in the sense that the bible teaches that all people are created in God’s image, yet they don’t accept the majority of those people into their community. Isn’t that like not accepting God? I knew I was Jewish for a reason. Happy non-religious Friday y’all.

Nonfail with A Little Bit of Fail Blog

I have a little bit of both a fail and a nonfail for you today. Let’s start with the fail so we can pad it with the nonfail to keep us smiling through the weekend. The fail goes like this: New York and New Jersey have decided that they are too good for gay marriage. New Jersey vetoed the bill before it was released to the public for voting. That hurts my soul. The New York governor said that he was going to do the same. Our only hope was the New England states and now they are letting us down. Out of all the states, I would think New York and California would be the ones to allow gay marriage because of the movie and theatre industries, but we have all been proven wrong. That kills. People just suck you know. Put down the tub of ice cream and the brick you’re about to throw through your window and keep reading.

The nonfail is that someone came up with an awesome idea to push into the crazy right wing faces by implementing the 2010 California Marriage Protection Act. John Marcotte is the master mind behind this little piece of awesomeness. Basically, this act was brought about as a form to protect marriage, but in a kiss my ass kind of way. Marcotte figured that since California residents were ready to keep gays from getting married as a form of protecting marriage, he was going to try to protect marriage in his own fashion by not allowing divorce. This is genius! If this act gets passed, divorce will no longer be legal in California. Try that on for size. He is sending out petitions to be signed as well as selling t-shirts for $12. The t-shirt design is kind of hilarious.

Marcotte needs 694,354 valid signatures by March 22. He is trying to get the petition on Facebook for people to sign. So what are you waiting for? Sign the damn thing and buy a t-shirt. I know I will. Happy gay Friday y’all!!!

* Steps Up On Soap Box *

Yet, another state loses the race. I just don’t understand. Voters in Maine decided this week that they do not want to legalize gay marriage. I am truly shocked simply because all of the states in New England are allowing gay marriage except for this one. All of the religious right wing assholes are coming out in full force now. I was watching Margaret Cho’s new show the other night and she made a very good point. She said that no right wing religious freak has any gay friends so they would never have to see it or get invited to the wedding so what the hell is the problem? Why do straight people think that gay people will affect them in any way? It’s not like gay people walk around with signs or display their sexuality. There is no different between a straight person and a gay person. We all have the same parts and the same minds and morals and some may even have the same wacky religious beliefs. So why the hell does it affect you? Guess what, it doesn’t. Me wanting to marry a woman does not affect any straight person in any way, shape, or form. It infuriates me that anyone would think that it does.

I also watched an episode of Grey’s Anatomy for the first time and it happened to be about a daughter whose father did not accept her because she was dating a woman. He sat her down with a priest to “pray the gay away” and her father started receipting bible verses at her and she recited some back that showed that being gay isn’t a sin. Come on religious freaks. Open your stupid little minds. If marrying someone of the same sex makes you happy, than be happy! Don’t let anyone stop you. Come on Obama. Stick up for the people who voted for you because you promised change.
