The Dr is Annoying!

I am soooo over Dr. Drew. I used to listen to Love Line every night on the way home from rehearsal in college and I loved it. It was something to listen to and keep me awake and entertained on my late night drives. But then Dr. Drew started getting involved in other things like Teen Mom and making predictions about Lindsey Lohan and the next thing we all know, he’s EVERYWHERE! You can’t turn around without seeing him on TV or hearing him on the radio. Well, now he’s going to be doing a day time show on the CW. Is this guy even a real doctor? On this show he will be working with “real people” and not celebrities. I feel like all the people who call into Love Line are real and the chicks on Teen Mom are real. The only celebrity he’s ever talked about is Lindsay Lohan. Who the hell does this guy think he is? Again, I don’t even think he’s a real doctor. Please go away!

Manic Monday

Did you know that MTV turned 30 last Monday? I had no idea that it’s been around that long. The network that made all the rock stars and singers famous is now known for ridiculous reality shows like Teen Mom and Jersey Shore. I miss the days when MTV stood for Music Television and there were music videos showing all the time. But I can’t remember the last time I saw a music video playing on MTV. They did away with TRL, which was the last string of hope for music videos. I don’t even know why people make them anymore. The only place to see them now is on YouTube. Obviously, I’m still a big fan of MTV and I watch quite a few of their brain mushing shows, but I feel like they should pull a Nickelodeon and show their old stuff starting at 9pm or something. Reruns of TRL or Making the Video. I would watch that. You do have to give it to MTV though, they’re definitely good at keeping the teen audiences, and sometimes the adult audiences, glued to their TV’s. True Life, Teen Wolf, Awkward, The Challenge, Real World. Those are all entertaining shows. I have a feeling MTV isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Happy belated birthday MTV!

Surprise

MTV has cancelled Skins. I’m not really surprised. I’m sure they were happy when the show got bad press because any press is good press, but I guess no one was watching it even with all the press. The show had to be aired after 10pm and then couldn’t repeat throughout the day in fear that the younger audiences would watch. When you have a show that needs to be aired that late so kids don’t watch, you probably shouldn’t have put it on the air anyway. I didn’t care much for the show. I watched a handful of episodes and could care less. Kids smoking, getting high and having sex is boring. So needless to say, I’m not too sad about this TV show loss.

Manic Monday

Ok, I watched the first 2 episodes of Teen Wolf on MTV.com and I’m not going to lie, it’s kind of good. It’s action packed of course, the filming is pretty good, and the characters are likable. The main character could use a few acting classes, but for the most part it’s entertaining. I didn’t expect it to be. I thought it was going to be awful, but I kind of want to keep watching. I’m not sure how they’re going to make the story into a full series though. Obviously, the kid needs to learn how to control changing from human to werewolf. Right now, the second his temper gets going or his heart rate is up, he turns into a wolf. So they can extend that a bit. He has a love interest so that could extend a bit, but I can only really see this lasting a few seasons before it fizzles out. I recommend taking a look. I mean there's really nothing else on TV on Monday night.

Good Friday

MTV has posted the first 8 or so minutes of their new Teen Wolf series premiering on Sunday. The filming style is interesting, but the acting is already super over dramatic. I guess we have to wait and see how the rest of it pans out.

Teen Wolf - MTV Shows

Hoooowwwwwllllll

Barf. The MTV promos for Teen Wolf are here and they look awful. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the news of this show. I never saw the original movie, but MTV tends to ruin things. I still watch their shows and rot my brain, but sometimes they rot brains a little too much. The promos tell me this is going to be another one of their bad shows. I mean look at the promo photo. Even the synopsis sounds super cheesy:

Scott was just a regular guy until one bite changed his life forever.

Now he struggles to understand who he is and what he might become. Is he more wolf than human - or is it the other way around? Whichever it is, it's not going to be easy. Scott will try to control his urges, but mostly he's scared that it's his urges that could end up controlling him.

TEEN WOLF is the story of Scott as he tries to walk the line between what he wants and what he can't help from wanting. Will the bite end up being a gift? Or will it be a curse? And what will it all mean for his relationship with Allison - the girl he can't get enough of? Only time will tell if he should embrace his newfound powers, or if he should fear them.

It just sounds so over dramatic. I feel like MTV could either have made this show super awesome or super bad and it looks like the latter. I will check out the first episode because every show deserves a chance so I guess we just have to wait and see. The first episode airs on June 5. I will definitely have a review for this one. My fingers are crossed that the promos and synopsis just don’t do it justice, but I go in expecting nothing.

Fail/Nonfail Blog Friday

MTV just keeps bringin' it don't they. Their recent adventure was just announced. They're going to resurrect Teen Wolf, but this will be a full series. Maybe they think this will take the focus off of Skins for a while. People are still fighting about that show. Maybe it will even take the place of Skins. MTV always feels the need to have some ridiculous teen drama going on and let me tell you, I kind of like it. I never saw the original movie, but I can't imagine that MTV will do it any justice. They say it will be darker than the movie. Here's a little run down of what we can expect:

The series centers on Scott McCall as the quintessential outsider, struggling to be recognized in a way that takes him out of high school anonymity. One night, his best friend, Stiles, convinces him to go into the woods to join a police search for a dead body. Scott ends up being attacked by a creature in the darkness, narrowly surviving with a vicious bite in his side. When he wakes up the next morning, he is greeted with strange surprises and a life that will never be the same.

Now I kind of want to watch the original. I wonder how they plan to make this into an entire TV series. Probably the same old shit with the high school trials and tribulations of a teen wolf in high school. Sigh.

Fail Blog Friday

I was putting this off, but I can no longer ignore it. Skins on MTV. Enough said for some of you I suppose. Have any of you watched it? I watched the first episode because I was curious what all the crazy press was about. It’s definitely not my kind of show. I don’t care about teenagers doing drugs and having sex. I was a teenager once. I don’t care to watch others be teenagers. So parents are all up in arms because they say the show is child porn. Sigh. I guess they can argue that because the actors are under 18, but there’s no real sex happening. There may be kissing and there may be touching, but as far as I know, that’s as far as it goes. I’ve seen shows where real sex happens. So why is everyone freaking out? Look at Jersey Shore. Those kids have real sex in front of real cameras all the time and no one seems to be freaking out about their kids watching that. Snookie can fall down drunk and you’re ok with your kids watching that? It’s MTV. So either shut up and realize that your kids are doing this shit anyway or block MTV. Also, I saw a clip of 2 girls kissing in an episode and I had to put in my birthday in order to watch it. All these girls did was kiss. That kind of pisses me off. If it was a guy and a girl in the same clip doing the same things, my birthday wouldn’t be necessary. I hate you homophobic America! I can't seem to find the clip. Seems like the interwebs have taken it away.

Florida Shore

Season 2 of the Jersey Shore starts again tonight and it leaves me incredibly confused. The number one reason: I thought this show was going to be similar to the Real World where they would switch out cast members each season, but that's not the case. They are bringing the exact same cast back, but this time they're putting them in Florida instead of Jersey. And that brings me my second point of confusion: If the cast will now be in Florida, why is the show still called Jersey Shore? It's just weird to me. Did you know these kids get paid $30,000 per episode to be on this damn show? I wanna cause drama on a show and make a yearly salary in one hour. That's not fair.

KROQ had the cast on the radio this morning and they were talking about how they can't go anywhere without people hounding them. One of the guys, the one that calls himself "The Situation" said they have to close down malls when they want to go shopping. That's gross. He never did anything in his life, but have a 6 pack and sleep with chicks and now he's famous. That kind of makes him sound like a porn star... Either way, shows like this make me so sad. I worked hard to get to where I am and then Joe Schmo comes in and steps all over me just by being on a reality TV show.

I will admit I watched the first couple episodes of the show when it first started because people were going ape shit over it and I needed to know what was going on. The show never appealed to me though. Watching a bunch of spoiled, conceited kids try to get some ass is not interesting to me at all. I would rather watch a Twilight movie.

The End of Hollywood

Well, it's finally over. The Hills has ended. I tried to watch it yesterday, but MTV.com was denying me access to the show by not posting it. I have read a lot about the finale though. I guess the very end shows Brody and Kristen saying their good byes with the Hollywood sign in the background and as Kristin walks away, the background rolls away and we see they're on a sound stage. So of course, everyone is freaking out debating on whether the show was fake or not. I honestly hope the show was fake because if it weren't, these kids need some therapy. Whose life is that dramatic and over complicated? Also, Brody was in an interview and talked about how there was an alternate ending planned where Lauren was supposed to be sitting in his living room when he comes back home after filming and it's as if they've been together all along. Oy vey. I'll admit I got into the crazy trend of the show and watched it religiously, but a huge part of me always knew it was fake. Yes, there really are people out there that act like these people do, but this show took all of those crazy people and put them in one room. What are the odds of that happening in real life? Anyway, I'll miss my drama filled show, but I always have the Real World to fall back on.

Bucket List

I know there are so many better things to worry about than stupid blogging or silly stories. A Republican has been elected into Massachusetts keeping the health care issues from ever being resolved. There are problems in Haiti and New Orleans. There are so many economic problems we can’t even begin to count. Yet, these stupid blogs and silly stories keep us going. They keep us from thinking about all of the insanity in the world and how much it sucks. The entertainment industry was booming during the Great Depression because it was a means of escape. I hope that I can provide that through this ridiculousness we all face.

With that I begin to talk about a new MTV show. MTV has always been known and will always be known for their horrific shows where a bunch of teens are spoiled and rich and have huge parties when they turn 16 or where a bunch of dumbasses who want money compete for a cash prize. MTV began the reality show phenomenon and they are holding up their end forever without once thinking about quality. Until now. A brand new show has hit MTV called The Buried Life. I remember seeing a commercial not too long ago thinking the show looked pretty cool. I watched it yesterday and I think MTV has hit new heights with this show. The premise of the show is simple, yet well done. The show consists of 4 young adult males who drive around North America in a crappy bus with a goal of completing 100 things they have on their bucket list. Along the way, they help strangers achieve one of their goals as well. The first episode consisted of the boys trying to sneak into a Playboy Mansion party as well as helping a school receive their first computer. Yes, the Playboy thing is silly and totally MTV, but the boys also helped a school. They danced on the street to raise the money for a new computer. Very touching. The show has to have some dumb aspects to allow it to be aired on MTV, such as sneaking into the Playboy Mansion, but what they do in return for the community or a random stranger is pretty freaking awesome. Makes me want to get out there and do something similar, minus the Playboy Mansion part.

No More

I know, I know. I have missed People of Wal-Mart Wednesday a few weeks in a row now, but there is so much more important information out there that needs to be discussed. The people of Wal-Mart will always be weird.

So last night, President Obama addressed the issue of what we are going to do to get out of Afghanistan. He said that the US is going to send 30,000 more troops in with the intention of eventually pulling out. The idea is to train the soldiers in Afghanistan so the US can pull out. At least there is the intention to eventually pull out…..?

I have issues with this. It’s great that Obama is trying to get us out of there, don’t get me wrong, but at what expense? We are sending 30,000 more troops over before this effort can take place. That bothers me. A lot. This means more American deaths. This means we could potentially have another Iraq on our hands. This doesn’t look good in my eyes. Last I heard, we tried to train the Afghan soldiers and they would run away when faced with danger. So much good that training did.

On one of the ridiculous MTV reality shows, there was a guy who was called to active duty while on the show so MTV took it upon themselves to make a special and follow this guy to duty. Granted he was called to Iraq, but they showed how hard it was on him and his family. Sending your kid off to fight in another country would be the hardest thing any parent would ever have to do. Thinking that you could potentially never see them again.

What I’m trying to say is that I don’t think it’s necessary to send additional troops. Why do more people need to fight? What does Obama hope to accomplish with sending more troops? He wants to keep the Afghan government from being overthrown by the Taliban, but what is the US supposed to do about that? Kill every member of the Taliban? Is that even possible?

Thoughts? Anyone?

Let's Dance

MTV is known for reality shows from Sweet 16 to True Life and trust me, I watch them all. What could be better than watching a 16 year old girl freak out because she doesn’t have enough white tigers at her party or watching people cope with Turrets? I find it all fascinating and one day my brain is going to turn to mush. Thank you MTV.

One of the more fascinating shows on MTV is America’s Best Dance Crew.

You all remember Slater from Saved By The Bell. He is the dreamy host of the show where dance groups battle it out to be the best. Here’s the thing though. With American Idol, you get a record deal if you win. With America’s Got Talent, you get your own show in Las Vegas. What happens to the groups who win America’s Best Dance Crew?

The group that won the first season, The Jabbawockeez, was in a music video and a commercial and some Macy’s show, but what else? Like what kind of contract is given to a dance crew? Either way it’s entertaining.

The judges are a random group of people including JC from N’ Sync. Who thought of this show and decided a boy band member should be a judge? Makes me giggle. Next time you get a chance, turn off your brain and watch this show. Every week there is a new challenge each group has to meet. It's cool to watch how they incorporate the challenges into their routines.
