Manic Monday

I hope no one floated away this weekend. Yesterday was a little insane. I don't think I've ever seen it rain that much in LA. I was in a bunch of different cities yesterday running around doing all the things and it was just incredible. The LA river was almost over flowing. Some of the water was so high, there weren't even side walks. I got very wet yesterday so I hope the rest of you stayed dry.
I haven't seen a trailer for this movie on TV or in the theatres yet, but I did catch it on someone else's blog and it looks awesome! The movie is called Super, not to be confused with Super 8, which looks awesome too. Super looks like it might be another Kick-Ass. I only saw the first part of Kick-Ass, but from what I saw the movie was pretty good. Super stars Ellen Page and Rainn Wilson. They were really funny together in Juno so I can only imagine that they'll be hilarious in this one. Comic books really aren't my thing, but I think I can put that aside for this movie. See for yourself.

Weekend Movie - Inception

I saw Inception this weekend and I have to admit that it was a lot better than I expected. I heard it was amazing, but only from a bunch of nerdy boys. I don't think the previews really do the movie justice. To me, the previews make the movie just look wild and crazy, but it's so much more than that.

I will try not to give anything away in case you haven't seen it, but the premise is very simple, yet so complex all at the same time. These people basically go into dreams and try to change the subconscious, but there are so many levels of dreaming and deep sleep that if done incorrectly, you could be trapped in limbo for 500 years. It's all quite interesting to me. When you realize what the entire premise of the movie is when it's all said and done, it's kind of simple and silly, but the writers make the surrounding story so complex that you don't even realize how plain it is. You really do have to pay attention though in order to know what's happening in each scene and whether the characters are dreaming or not. With all that said, Leonardo DiCaprio and his team must change one mans subconscious while traveling through 3 different levels of dreaming and 3 different peoples subconscious. Ellen Page is a design student and is brought in by Leonardo to design each dream world and they go from there. The end of the movie leaves you hanging and I loved it. Nothing is better to me than using your imagination. The sound level of the movie was a bit too loud for my taste, but an article somewhere said the movie theatres are required to turn up the volume as part of the "experience." The theatre was freaking shaking, but it makes sense that the writers and directors want the audience immersed into the world they create.

The cast is amazing. Ellen Page breaks out of her quirky roles she's been thrust into and Leonardo DiCaprio just knows how to pick them. Of course the cast also includs Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who does his own stunts and is amazing and I was so happy to see him outside of a teen movie, Michael Caine, who has a smaller role, but no role is ever too small for him, and Marion Cotillard, who does a fabulous job and is just gorgeous. It's just a great ensemble cast. It's one of those movies you could buy and watch over and over again and always find something new. So needless to say, the movies deserves to be at number one for 3 solid weeks.

Thrill Me

I love me a good psychological thriller movie. Oooo baby. The movie Hard Candy makes me gaga even though it didn’t at first. It kind of pissed me off at first, but then I saw it again and became obsessed. Ellen Page is amazing in general and then she was in this movie and made me even crazier for her as an actress. She plays the scary kid pretty well. Now, we have the movie Inception with Ellen Page and Leo DiCaprio. Another psychological thriller to make my bones rattle. I saw the preview for the movie when I went to see Sherlock Holmes and I was bouncing in my seat. Leo is amazing, Ellen is amazing, thrillers are amazing, what more is there? Nothing I tell you! Check it out for yourself and tell me that you are as excited as I am. It comes out this summer!

Weekend Movie – Whip It

So I saw Whip It this weekend. I heard that it wasn’t doing so hot at the box office, but got amazing reviews so they hoped it would do well by word of mouth. Well, here are the words from my mouth: This movie was awesome. Not only was it a movie about chicks in short dresses on roller skates kicking ass, but it had very good messages.

The movie was also directed by Drew Barrymore and she did a hell of a job. I would see this movie many more times. I hope it does really well from here on out.

The messages in this movie are the feel good messages that make you want to cry tears of happiness, but it’s split up by roller skating awesomeness. Ellen Page plays the teen angst character that has had her life dictated to her and hides the fact that she wants to roller skate instead of be in pageants because she thinks her mom will freak out. Well, you know of course the mom freaks, but then comes to terms with the fact that she can’t change her kid and as long as her kid is happy she can live and be happy as well. Come on, how heart warming is that. I know that underlying story line tends to be cliché, but the way it was presented was just well done.

Ellen Page will continue to be a rising star if she keeps this up. I truly recommend this movie. If you’re planning on seeing it, call me. I will be there.

Manic Monday

Sigh. Ellen Page. So tiny and so talented. Who knew Canada could produce such talent.

Her new movie Whip It opened this weekend and it did pretty well. It was in the top 10, which is awesome considering it’s almost in the Indie film category. I was going to see it, but missed the showing so I will see it next weekend and report back next week.

Ellen is best known for Juno, which is where the obsession began. I immediately rented all her movies and even dressed up as Juno for Halloween. It was rockin’. I never want to be pregnant. It’s too warm.

Ellen has been in some crazy ass movie including Hard Candy. I hated the movie the first time I saw it. I wanted to throw things and yell at people, but then I saw it again and I was hooked. I tell everyone they need to watch this movie. It’s a psychological thriller and I eat that shit for breakfast. I tried to write one of my own once, but I don’t think I was very good at it.

Anyway, Ellen is one of those talented actresses that could be around for a long time. Not like Kristen Stewart who is too boring to live. Or like teen stars who will disappear after their fifth movie. I think she will have a long career and I am ready to follow her every step. Oh and she plays soccer, which is a huge plus. Happy Monday!
