And The Oscar Goes To...

I'm usually excited every year to watch the Academy Awards. I try to go out and see all the movies and then sometimes friends have gatherings and we do our own voting and pool of money and it's fun times. I even went to a dress to impress party where I actively wore the ugliest dress and put on the ugliest make-up. Well, this time around I'm a little disappointed. Eddie Murphy has been chosen to host and I honestly can't stand him. He's probably the most annoying comic ever. But I guess anything is better than Anne Hathaway and James Franco right? Here's to hoping he's a lot better than I'm expecting.

Morning After

I hope everyone watched the Oscars last night. I got to watch the rehearsal before the show because the company I work for was working on the behind the scenes stuff on the internet so we could see everything that was happening in the theatre and the rehearsal was probably better than the show itself. James Franco and Anne Hatahway both came out on stage and they both looked like they just rolled out of bed. Franco's hair was totally messy and his sweater was 2 times too small and he just looked high. Hathaway was very giddy, but she just looked exhausted. Then, the stand ins who were doing the fake acceptance speeches and what not were just awesome. They really got into it. One guy even got up there and was fake crying. Just hilarious. I saw the reharsal for the Grammy's a few years ago, but those people were taking it seriously. This was just the best.

Anyway, even though I haven't seen The King's Speech yet, I had a feeling it would walk away with the most awards. I kept hearing amazing things about the movie. I'm super happy that Natalie Portman won for Black Swan. She totally deserved that! Here are the rest of the winners:

I'd like to Thank....

I have to say that the Academy Awards are getting better and better each year. They get you in and get you out as fast as they can now. I remember not too long ago when the ceremony was like 6 hours and it started at 8 and ended at midnight. It was just insane. The acceptance speeches would go on forever and it was just boring. This year and last year it was 3 hours long and the mics were turned off after 2 minutes of an acceptance speech. That’s the way it should be.

We are also beginning to see new advances in the way the old men of the Academy think. Black men and women are winning awards. This year was the first year a female won for best director. That’s pretty amazing. It’s beginning to no longer matter what color your skin is or what your gender is. The Academy is beginning to see the talent and that’s the way it should have been all along. Also, congrats Sandra Bullock!

The show was hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin and I’m surprised they didn’t get as much stage time as hosts have in the past. I recall hosts getting to do a lot more than Alec and Steve did last night. I was super excited for them to host because they are both so hilarious. There were definitely funny moments, but I kind of wished for more. I remember when Ellen DeGeneres hosted and she wore the swan dress that Bjork wore. Soooo funny. I love her. Either way, the show was enjoyable. The movie The Hurt Locker walked away with pretty much every award it was nominated for including best picture. I haven’t seen it, but last night definitely persuaded me to see it.
