The Holy Grail

Major guilty pleasure alert. So I’m reading the book The Da Vinci Code and it has taken me a little bit to get through it because I don’t get as much time to read as I would like, but my New Years resolution is to read more so I will be putting in more time. But wow is this book fascinating. I can see why the Christians hated the book because it basically shows the truth behind their religion and the brain washing that has happened. I know that Dan Brown has kind of fudged the truth here and there, but for the most part he is presenting historical truth. Every time I come across something that I wonder about, I whip out the iPhone and Google. Dan Brown is pretty freaking close. I mean all of his ideas come from truth.

The thing about this book that really makes me gaga is Leonardo Da Vinci himself. That man is freaking fascinating. He basically taunted humans with his art. He has all these hidden meanings in his art regarding the Holy Grail and the truth behind Jesus and Mary Magdalene and wow. He shows that women are supposed to be the powerful ones and not the men, which I knew, but not many men were willing to accept that truth, but Da Vinci worshiped it. Not only was he an amazing artist, but he was a clever little bugger. He came up with inventions that were never executed, but were quite amazing in theory. I decided to search Amazon for some books about Da Vinci and I found one that has all of his works.

I want to sit down with Dan Brown and be like “tell me what you know!!!” I was never a big history buff because it was all boring dates to me until I had this amazing teacher who told us the truth behind the bullshit and that is what Dan Brown is doing. So awesome!!!!

Weekend Movie – The Princess and the Frog, Invictus, and Angels and Demons

Zzzzzzz. What is happening? Ok I’m not going to lie, I fell asleep during The Princess and the Frog and not because it was boring or anything because it wasn’t, but because I was exhausted. So it is hard for me to write a review on this movie because I really don’t remember a lot of it. This is what I do remember: it was entertaining, but sad. We all knew the movie was going to be sad going into it because the girl had both parents and kisses a happy frog. Disney always takes something happy and makes it sad and adds an evil villain. Well guess what, Disney does not let you down. Sad with an evil villain is what this movie should have been titled. I did like how they kept the movie classic. It was not in 3-D, which makes me happy any day and there was singing and dancing. I would like to see it again at some point to know what I missed. The best part was the fact that a bunch of animators for the movie were in the audience too. They were all clapping when their names came up during the credits. It was super cute.

Now onto Invictus. This movie was awesome. I learned a lot about rugby. I didn’t know that you could only pass the ball backwards or sideways. You learn something new everyday. Rugby is a tough sport; I mean these guys were coming off the field with cuts faces and scratches all over their bodies. Matt Damon really buffed up for the movie too and of course Morgan Freeman was awesome. Isn’t he always? This is one of those feel good movies and it was a true story, which makes you feel even better. If you’re looking for a pick me up, this might be your best bet.

I also rented Angels and Demons and decided to watch it on Saturday since I was feeling sick again. I am reading the Da Vinci Code right now and Angels and Demons is the next installment. Dan Brown is freaking awesome. He talks about subject matters that are so freaking fascinating. In the middle of the movie I was like “I want to go to the library right now and look up everything about the Illuminati.” Good stuff!!!

This was an awesome movie weekend.

Reading Rainbow

Every once in a while I go through phases where I want to read everything in sight and then other times I can’t be bothered with reading. Right now I am in the read everything in sight phase. I had been reading this one book called “Prophecy of the Sisters” and I was reading it super fast, but suddenly it got super scary and the only time I was able to read was at night and since the book was so scary I had to stop reading for a while. It was sad because the book is good. Well, I finally finished it and because I had stopped reading because I’m a scardey cat, I had forgotten a lot of the important details. Luckily, I was able to go back and refresh a little. The book is the first of a trilogy and I seriously cannot wait until the next book comes out. This book can be found in the teen section at a Barnes and Noble near you. Although Amazon is cheaper.

My dad bought me “The Da Vinci Code” so I am reading that right now, but I decided to peruse the teen section at Barnes and Noble the other day. Now, I will admit that I am one to judge a book by its cover. If the cover is cool looking, than the book must be. I was in the new release teen section and suddenly this face popped out at me. I new it looked familiar. It was the face of the evil queen from Snow White.

Her face was against a black background and it looked freaking cool. I picked it up and read the description of the book. The book is called “Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen.” It’s based on the queen’s perspective and why she hated Snow White so much. Ok, I know what you’re thinking, she totally stole this concept from a million other writers and you’re right, but this story line seems cool to me. “The Wizard of Oz” was twisted to create “Wicked” as well as many other books and they all seem cool including this one. I am very curious. Of course because the book was in the teen section the font was a bit bigger than normal and would probably take 5 minutes to read, but I want to read it nonetheless. Don’t judge me!!! * hint hint for xmas gift*

“Little bird . . .” the Queen’s voice broke and trailed off.

“Momma, what’s wrong?” The Queen shook her head, and closed her eyes tightly to dam the tears. Snow looked at her mother with sad, black eyes and said, “He’s not coming back yet, is he? Not now?” The Queen shook her head. “Not ever.” - “I think maybe you’re wrong, Momma, he promised he would come home soon, and Papa never breaks his promises.”

The Queen’s grief intensified at the child’s denial. She choked it down and felt it grip at her, slicing at her insides like broken pieces of glass. She felt broken, no longer able to contain her tears. “I know, my poppet, but I’m not mistaken. He couldn’t help it, my darling, he isn’t coming home this time.” The little girl’s lip quivered and she began to shake. The Queen held out her arms to her, and Snow White crumpled into her mother’s lap and howled an unearthly sob. The child was shaking so violently that the Queen felt she might crush the little girl for holding her too tightly. As she hugged Snow she wished to take the child’s grief and lock it away inside her with her own.
