Midweek Movie - Salt

It's not often I get the opportunity to see a movie during the week so I took advantage of it and I was kind of disappointed. I'm a huge fan of action movies, I mean who isn't. I love Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Men in Black and stuff like that. Well, I was hoping Salt would live up to some standards, but it didn't. At first it was good and I saw the movie having some potential, but then when the story got going, it got kind of lame. After only an hour, the story was pretty much done and everyone was killed, but there was still another 40 minutes or so to go. So what the hell was going to happen next. Oh wait, more killing and then a completely ridiculous ending. Ugh! I love Angelina Jolie in her action movies. She plays the tough chick well, but this movie she didn't pick so well and I think the only reason the producers wanted her for the role of Salt was because no one would see the movie otherwise. When you look at ads for the movie, they barely even show Angelina anyway. All they say is "Salt is bad" or "stay away from Salt." The story doesn't drive the movie and Angelina does what she can with the little she has. The ending set up a second movie and I'm not sure if I care to see it. Sure, I would be curious and would probably illegally download the movie, but giving my money to making another movie like this makes me sad.

The premise is interesting. The Russians train children to be spies and what not and then plant them in the CIA for years so no one suspects anything. They work as normal American CIA members and then once they decide their time limit is up, they go about their duties killing presidents and everyone else who stands in their way. The movie had some small twists, which made it more interesting, but all Salt wanted to do was seek revenge against the Russians who trained her and killed her husband. She pretends to perform her Russian spy duties and then seeks revenge. It sounds a lot better than it actually is. It wasn't boring to me, it was more blah than anything. Like ok, I see your twist, but now make something out of it. The twist in the story would happen and then that was it, they would go on with more killing. I guess I can't expect much from an action movie, but Mr. and Mrs. Smith has a decent plot line at least. Either way, wait for Salt to come out on DVD.

Terrible Tuesday

I missed Manic Monday due to a holiday so I am making up for it with Terrible Tuesday. We all know what has happened over in Haiti and if you don’t then you need to get out from under that rock and figure it out. There are so many organizations and celebrities reaching out to help these people. Some are freaking brilliant, such as texting to donate $10 via your phone bill. Way to use technology and the most popular form. Another is Sport Chalet taking gently used shoes and sending them over to Haiti. These are just 2 of a million ways to help.

The reason I write this blog is because I heard about all of these celebrities who are reaching out on their own to help. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are of course among the celebrities reaching out. Sandra Bullock donated $1 million as well. It’s pretty amazing. Here is where I begin to throw up. One of the actresses from the Gossip Girl, which is probably one of the worst shows ever, and who’s name I don’t even care to repeat or remember for that matter told reporters during an interview that she is too busy working on creating an album to donate any time or help to the people in Haiti. Wow. Fuck you. You probably have no talent anyway. Rush Limbaugh also said on his show that he doesn’t think we should be lending any help. That we are already in too much of an economic crisis to help and our tax dollars are the only aid they need. Fuck you too. Pat Robertson also said that he thinks Haiti had it coming because they didn’t want to listen to the French. He said this was the devil’s doing. Some people should remain under that rock and never come out.
