Good Friday

Good Friday

I think every Friday should be called Good Friday. I mean it’s Friday and that’s good because Saturday is here and then Sunday comes after. Ok, sorry I had to channel Rebecca Black for a second. Well, anyway Happy Good Friday. I have to share this because to me this is very good! I am so excited and I hope Grey’s Anatomy doesn’t do anything to fuck it up. Also, spoiler alert!

Did I Do That?

The other day Kobe was kicked off the court for too many technical fouls and while he was walking to the bench, TNT caught him throwing a tantrum. And in that tantrum, he was throwing out anti-gay remarks at the ref. It makes me laugh that TNT caught this entire thing and now Kobe owes $100,000 in fines. Jeesh, I wish we could do that to everyone who made anti-gay remarks. I’m not sure where that money would go, but it sure as hell would stop people from saying bad things. Obviously, this being caught on camera is the reason he was fined and I’m sure if the camera didn’t catch him he wouldn’t be punished at all. But then again, if the camera didn’t catch him, no one would even know he made these comments. Either way, I’m happy he’s being punished. $100,000 is probably pocket change to him though. Turns out too, that the NBA was about to release a public service announcement campaign with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) in order to present the league as being more "gay friendly." Guess they failed there. Good job Kobe. Stick it to the kids.

Major Win Blog Friday

Lady Gaga, you are now my hero! Remember not too long ago how all these articles were surfacing which named a bunch of businesses that supported anti-gay organizations and we all vowed never to go to those places again? Well, we can now cross Target off that list. I sigh with relief because I love me some Target. Lady Gaga has convinced Target to start supporting gay organizations and steer clear of the anti-gay organizations. That’s amazing! She met with them face to face and convinced them to change their ways:

“That discussion was one of the most intense conversations I’ve ever had in a business meeting,” Lady Gaga said. “Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they’ve made in the past … our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they’ve made supporting those [antigay] groups.”

After their talk, Target has vowed to donate $500,000 to the LGBT community. Makes me wonder why they started giving money to anti-gay organizations in the first place. Either way, thank you Lady Gaga. And of course Elton John says her new song “Born This Way” is the new gay anthem.

Midweek Fail!

I had to run up to my desk and write this. I couldn't believe what I was hearing when I was driving in this morning. KROQ had their usual show biz update and they were talking about Elton John and how he and his partner have a new baby now. I saw them on the cover of a magazine and I thought it was super awesome. I remember someone wasn't allowing Elton to have a baby at one point so I'm glad he and his partner were finally able to have one. Well, the magazine with Elton on the cover with his partner and new baby are being sent out with plastic covers on them just like they do with Playboy and Maxim. They're trying to cover up the fact that the cover portrays a gay couple with a baby. REALLY?!?!?! Are you fucking kidding me?!?! Who is being hurt by this image that you feel the need to hide it? Tell me now because I'm really curious. No one is kissing on the cover. They're all clothed. All they're doing is posing with their new baby. KROQ was saying the magazine is trying to protect families and children. Fuck you!!!! Children don't give a shit and they're probably gay anyway. I hate you fucking religious fanatic fucks! If there was someone to boycott, I would be doing it right now!

Manic Monday

Well, we did it. Americans have taken a very large step in the right direction. Don't Ask, Don't Tell was repealed over the weekend. People can now serve openly. That's huge. I think I realized how huge it actually was when a poll was taken to see how this would affect troops and almost everyone said it wouldn't. Why should it? As long as you're all focusing on the same effort, who cares which sex you like. Who cares!!! So again I say we have taken a huge step. This one step can lead to even more large steps, such as legalizing gay marriage. And then, we've made it. I'm very happy about this and we can only hope for more in the future. I know we will get there.

I would also like to point out that Obama is the President while all this is happening. That's all.

The Best Message

I’m sure you’ve all seen the Messages of Hope out there from people like Obama or Hilary Clinton, but for some reason I think this one speaks to me the most. Maybe because it has real people speaking about their real experiences or because I freaking love Pixar. All of these people speak from the heart and their emotions are very real. I feel like when people like Hilary and Obama speak out, they’re doing it because they have an obligation, but Pixar doesn’t. None of these people do, but look how happy they are now. One lady talks about how she was happy someone interrupted her from committing suicide because she would have missed out on so much. That’s real to me. Getting to come home to the one you love is real to me. And speaking from personal experience, it really does get better. Enjoy.

Boobies!!!!

So maybe I was a little harsh on Justin Bieber yesterday. I said that it might be good that he was speaking out against teen bullying because his audience is full of teens who may be bullies and he could stop them. But I also said that he was being ridiculous for thinking that he was one of the bullied kids. I guess as long as he speaks out about the issue to his younger audience than he can think whatever he wants. As long as someone with his fame speaks out about it I'm ok.

I hope everyone is wearing purple today in support of anti-bullying. Is that an oxymoron? Anyway, if you're not wearing purple go home and change right now! I have a purple shirt and socks on.

Since, we're in October we should be thinking about another color: pink. This month is breast cancer awareness month as I'm sure the majority of you know. It's been all over the NFL and the news. It's awesome to see how many people support breast cancer awareness. I was kind of shocked to see that the NFL was doing something. They usually don't care about anyone other than themselves.

In case you're not a football person, the NFL has breast cancer awareness merchandise plus they're doing a thing called "A Crucial Catch: Annual Screening Saves Lives," which stresses the importance of getting annual mammograms. I'm super impressed. Go NFL!

That brings me to my next point. NPR was talking about mammograms last week and if women should be getting them younger than 50. My answer is yes. For some reason, this caused a huge debate. Some people think it’s ludicrous to have women get a mammogram earlier than 50 as if women only get breast cancer from the age of 50 on. People feel the age decrease won’t make a difference in statistics and others say the mammogram isn’t a good tool. I'm really surprised by that. I thought the mammogram was supposed to be a great tool. I've seen scans from it and it looks pretty amazing to me.... So, we're relying on a tool that doesn't seem to be doing it's job. I guess that's why they hand out those self exam pamphlets.

If there’s a family history, I think women should have mammograms as early as 25. If there’s no family history, women should get them as early as 30 or maybe even earlier. Breast cancer can happen at any age. It baffles me that people are putting an age limit on these tests. Even if mammograms aren’t an option because of the amount of radiation it sends through the body or inaccuracy than an ultra sound or other tests should be done.

So ladies, check those boobs as much as possible!

Laser Tag Gets Rough

So Justin Bieber got pushed around during a game of laser tag and was called a fag and is now supporting the movement to try to stop bullying against homosexual teens? Are you fucking kidding me? When I heard that I wanted to puke. He thinks he's one of those teens and is now speaking out. Um, number one you're not one of those teens at all because as far as we know you're not gay and kids are brutal during laser tag no matter who you are or what you look like and number two you're really a women under all that hair anyway. I guess Bieber is going to address the issue at his next concert. Come on people. Gay teens being bullied is a real thing! I feel like Bieber is almost poking fun at it no matter how serious he thinks he is. I guess on one hand, his audience consists of teens and maybe if he speaks about it, the teens will listen. I just hope he takes this seriously. I mean, you were freaking pushed during a laser tag game. No one got hurt or committed suicide. I just think this is so ridiculous. Correct me if I'm wrong here.
