Young Adult

When I first heard about the movie Young Adult it sounded awesome for a few reasons. First, it's written and directed by the same writer and director from Juno. Second, it freaking stars Charlize Theron. Sounds like a good combination to me! But then I saw the trailer and I don't know if it's awesome anymore. It looks kind of weird... I really hope Diablo Cody isn't a one hit wonder, but it's beginning to look that way. I also hope that Charlize Theron wouldn't pick a crappy movie. Obviously, every actor has a few crappy movies in their career, but I'm hoping this isn't one for Charlize. Yes, we're on a first name basis here. Either way, check out the trailer and let me know your thoughts.

Bossypants

Yes please! Tina Fey has a book out this week called Bossypants. This is the description on Amazon:

Tina Fey’s new book Bossypants is short, messy, and impossibly funny (an apt description of the comedian herself). From her humble roots growing up in Pennsylvania to her days doing amateur improv in Chicago to her early sketches on Saturday Night Live, Fey gives us a fascinating glimpse behind the curtain of modern comedy with equal doses of wit, candor, and self-deprecation. Some of the funniest chapters feature the differences between male and female comedy writers ("men urinate in cups"), her cruise ship honeymoon ("it’s very Poseidon Adventure"), and advice about breastfeeding ("I had an obligation to my child to pretend to try"). But the chaos of Fey’s life is best detailed when she’s dividing her efforts equally between rehearsing her Sarah Palin impression, trying to get Oprah to appear on 30 Rock, and planning her daughter’s Peter Pan-themed birthday. Bossypants gets to the heart of why Tina Fey remains universally adored: she embodies the hectic, too-many-things-to-juggle lifestyle we all have, but instead of complaining about it, she can just laugh it off.

Sounds awesome. I really want to read it. I’m sure anything she has to say in here is pretty freaking hilarious. Sometimes I wonder though. People say that comedy comes from a dark place and this description makes me wonder if she’s just a super depressed person.

Winning

Well, after all the hype and insanity surrounding the Charlie Sheen debacle, which I chose not to write about, he's been fired from Two and a Half Men. I chose not to comment before because I think this is all ridiculous. Our oil supply is being threatened and all people care about is Charlie Sheen. There was a huge earthquake in New Zealand and a lot of people died, but the only thing on the news is Charlie Sheen. I'm sad because his behavior has harmed a lot more people than just him. He's happy to be leaving the show. He claims it's the best thing that's ever happened to him, but what about the other actors? What about the 200 crew that have been working on that show for years? What about them? I've heard that the show may come back without Charlie Sheen, but I highly doubt that. You can't replace a main character like that. So my sadness goes out to all those people who are now out of a job. The people who have worked on that show forever now need to go out and look for a job in an industry where there are no jobs. Screw you Charlie Sheen. You're so selfish!

On a lighter note, this is hilarious!

Fock This

Ok seriously. How many more Focker movies are they going to make? The first one was alright. I saw it with my dad because we both have the same sense of humor and again it was just alright. It definitely wasn’t a movie I would see again. Then, the second one came around and because the first one was so blah, I didn’t even bother seeing the second. And now the third? Um, yeah I’m going to miss that one too. I heard there’s going to be a fourth as well. Why?!?! Why?!?! Do these movies actually keep people in their seats? I guess they must if they keep making more, but they’re just so bad! It’s one thing to have a funny Christmas movies, but these movies aren’t even that funny. Sigh. It just makes me sad because I think Ben Stiller is better than that. Along Came Polly is probably my favorite Ben Stiller movie. He’s cute and fun in that movie. Oh and Dodge Ball is freaking awesome. I definitely think Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman are better than these lame duck movies. There has to be another funny movie these people can come together and make. If you like these movies, power to you. I just can’t sit through more than one. Maybe they’ve gotten better and I should give them a try, but right now I’m just kind of annoyed with the story line. The little kids do look cute though.

Manic Monday

Oh Kathy Griffin how I love thee. I know it's pretty much a love hate relationship with her. You either love her or you hate her. Well, I think she's very funny, but I do think that she can do some crazy shit sometimes. I watched her show, but I've never seen her live. I would love to do that one day. Not too long ago, she was doing a show for the marines and their families and she started talking about how fat Bristol Palin got after Dancing with the Stars and she got booed for it. Silly marines. Just because her last name is Palin doesn't mean you have to boo someone who makes a true and very funny statement about her. I guess all those marines are Palin lovers. See for yourself. It's very funny.

Weekend Movie - Easy A

I was so excited that Easy A hit theatres. I've seen previews for a while and it's finally here. This movie looked good in previews and it pretty much lived up to those previews. I found myself laughing quite a bit and that's not a common occurrence. The script is so witty. It's similar to Juno in that sense. Juno is a little darker, but the pace and sarcasm is very similar. In case you're unfamiliar, the movie is about a girl who pretends to have sex with all these guys to make them seem cool. She's deemed a slut, but she kind of embraces it. Pretty simple premise, but hilarious. There was this lady who laughed so hard at one point during the movie that she started to snort causing everyone around her to laugh. It was awesome.

I freaking love Emma Stone. She has stolen my heart. She has impeccable timing making the movie even funnier. I kind of want to look her up on IMDB and watch all of her movies. I highly recommend seeing this. It's definitely a movie that can easily be watched over and over. I think I might do that.

Funnies

It is rare to find strong female comedians who can hold their own. There are plenty of male comedians out there who can get away with anything. They can say anything and do anything and it’s totally fine, but once a female says those things, they are shunned, but there are a few who can get away with it. Kathy Griffin is a good example of a strong female comedian who gets away with a lot. She tells the truth, which is amazing. The difference between female comedians and male comedians is that women kind of tell it like it is. They talk about political issues and what’s happening in the world and kind of make fun of it and put it into perspective where as the men kind of just talk about having sex with a girl.

Margaret Cho’s new comedy DVD “Beautiful” is coming out soon and I was awesome enough to get a first look at the DVD. She gets away with so much it’s awesome. She talks about sex a lot and gay people a lot, but she also talks about the world and how ridiculous we all can be sometimes. The thing I love the most about her is her ability to reenact moments. She is hilarious. She is also on the show Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime. She is very normal on that show and you would never know that she has a potty mouth. Trust me she does! When her DVD comes out, I highly recommend it. Good stuff.

Preview for Beautiful

Funny!
