Sharpie Review

I love Sharpies. I mean who doesn't. There are so many different kinds of Sharpies to choose from. There are even a million colors to choose from.

I pretty much use a Sharpie for any kind of writing, unless the paper is super thin. Sharpie has a tendency to bleed through paper and that can make things look messy and I have a mild case of OCD.

Sharpie just came out with a pencil that apparently uses liquid graphite. The ads for the pencil claim that you can write and erase like a pencil, but it becomes permanent after 3 days like a pen. Sounds cool right? No more pencil smudges all over your paper. I think it would be cool for left handed people because pencil gets all over their hands.

So my roommates and I went on a hunt for these pencils and couldn't find them. We went to every single office supply store known to man and when we asked about the product, we got looked at like we were insane. We even called art supply stores and they did the same thing. Well, finally my roommate came home with one and we pretty much jumped for joy. It was so exciting to finally know that this product existed. For a while we thought Sharpie was playing games with us.

So I played with the pencil yesterday morning and I have to say that it freaking sucks. It doesn't write with a steady stream of graphite. It has breaks of graphite in the letters. My roommate said that it crapped out on her in the middle of writing. So disappointing! After all that! I kind of want to write a letter to Sharpie expressing my deepest sorrows. They brought me so high and then shot me down so hard. How can they do this to us?!?

Dear Sharpie Creative Team,

You don't know me, but I'm your biggest fan. Sharpie has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I see your brand name on a pen and my heart begins to flutter. Your prices are reasonable and therefore I need to leave my wallet in the car every time I enter an office supply store. Recently, I went on a hunt for your new liquid pencils and I found myself to be completely disappointed. You've failed. How can you do this to all of your fans? How did you not know this would happen? I think I speak for all of your fans when I say make it better. Make this new product better or I will boycott all Sharpie pens.

Sincerely,
On the fence Sharpie fan

Looks like I'm not alone in my opinion:

  1. I feel like you were a little harsh on Sharpie. Yes, it's true the pencil doesn't seem to live up to the standards we have set for them but I feel they are on the right path and we'll see improvements in the next batch.
