Speak Into the Mic Please

Everyone’s favorite girl, including mine, was on American Idol for the first time last night. It was Hollywood night where all the singers get a second chance to sing for the judges and they pretty much drop like flies. I wanted to watch the show solely because of Ellen; otherwise I could really care less. There was so much controversy behind her coming on the show because she doesn’t know much about music. The first thing she did when she walked out to great all the singers was say, “People keep saying I don’t belong here because I don’t know much about music, but I know how to stand on a stage and try to impress people and that’s why I belong here.” That’s not an exact quote, but it’s pretty close. I was so happy to hear her address that issue. She has been judged her entire career. She’s a female comedian number one and there aren’t many around and number two she came out on her TV show and then the show was canceled because no one wanted to watch a lesbian. I think she is perfect as an American Idol judge, knowledgeable in music or not.

After seeing her as a judge, I would audition for her any day. She was the comedic relief and that is the perfect thing to have when you’re nervous out of your mind. Nerves are always settled when someone makes you laugh. I speak from experience. She was also really nice. She would give her criticism, but she wasn’t mean. She told the truth in a nice way as opposed to Simon who flat out tells people they suck.

Some of these people auditioning are from freaking farms in the middle of no where. They don’t need to hear that they suck, just that they aren’t exactly what the judges are looking for. I loved seeing Ellen’s face and seeing her make everyone laugh. It was a great night of TV watching.
